A gang has been arrested in southwest China accused of carrying out eight robberies in eight days, according to a news website report.
The gang was mainly made up of young men with the leader just 16 years old, Yunnan.cn reported.
A man driving an electric motorcycle with two female friends was stopped by five armed men in Kunming in Yunnan province earlier this month and they were threatened at knifepoint to hand over their cash and mobile phones.
The robbers made off with 2,900 yuan (HK$3,300) in cash and three cell phones.
Eight similar crimes happened in Kunming between October 5 and the 13th of this month and police believed they were carried out by the same gang, according to the report.
Twelve were arrested at the gang’s base on October 14 and five other members of the gang were said to be at large.
Eight people, aged 16 to 23, have been held on suspicion of robbery and a 40-year-old man has been detained suspected of receiving stolen goods.
Police discovered members of the gang all had criminal records, but had been released due to their young age.
The gang started the spate of robberies this month, the report said.
